The Discussion

I'm confused by the acronyms. What is the difference between PTEC and PTRC?

CA Expert (Aftab & Associates)

PTEC stands for Professional Tax Enrollment Certificate. It's the tax the company pays for its own existence (usually ₹2500 annually). PTRC is the Professional Tax Registration Certificate, which is used to remit the ₹200/month you deduct from your employees.

Do I have to file returns for both?

CA Expert (Aftab & Associates)

Yes. The company pays PTEC annually before April 30th. For PTRC, you must file a monthly return and pay the deducted tax within 20 days of the end of the month. We handle these recurring filings for all our payroll clients.
